Materials:

Seed beads

Bugle beads

Tiger tail or silk cord

Crimp beads

Lobster clasp and ring

Tools:

Pliers

Using a morse
code chart (see below) lay out the beads in the word that you would
like to put in your necklace. In the video, the word love is being
spelled out.

If using silk cord, attach the clasp to one
end of silk cord using the crimp bead and pliers, then string on your
beads spelling out the word that you are putting on your necklace (see
video). Then attach the other end of your clasp (the ring).

If
you are using tiger tail, attach the clasp to one end of the tiger tail
and then fill up with seed beads in a clear colour until your necklace
is 1/4 full of beads, then string on the word in morse
code, then fill up the other side with clear beads. If your word is
short, you may need to do more clear seed beads before and after your
word. Once you have filled up the other side, attach the other side of
your clasp (the ring).

We hope you enjoyed making this necklace as much as we did.
We are often asked by mothers what theme should we do for my daughter's party. If the birthday girl is 8 or older, we always suggest that she go with the theme of "beading party". We suggest that the children paint wooden jewelry boxes or make candy kabobs and the mothers often hand out candy jewelry. The painted jewelry boxes or candy kabobs make a great take home gift and are a great alternative to the traditional loot bag. We also suggest that the mother make a jewelry box birthday cake or cupcakes with real rings or ringpops placed on top as a decoration.

For the younger children, where it is all about THE THEME, we suggest a "Fancy Nancy" party, a "Sophia the first" party or a tea party using one of the above themes. Both these themes are perfect for 5-7 year old girls.
We are doing a "Sophia the first" beading party for my 6 year old daughter's birthday this fall. We are so excited to announce our newest package for girls ages 9 and up. Our new memory wire consists of gold or silver plated memory wire, glass foil beads in every colour imaginable and silver and copper findings.

We love this package because the girls can get so creative with the colours that they use and the designs that they choose.

A popular bracelet that many girls have been making is a "frozen" bracelet, using different shades of blue, as with white and silver accents.

How to Make a Bracelet using Pearls and Spacers using Spring 2014 colours

Materials:
Pearls
Spacers
Elastic string

Using scissors, cut a strand that is double the size of your
wrist and then add two inches. Tie together with a knot at the end of
your strings. String a bead and then 5 spacers, continue this pattern
until the bracelet is the desired length. Tie in another knot to finish
off your bracelet.

To make your bracelet extra trendy, make it in one of springs
"it" colours. According to Pantone, the Official Color of 2014 is
PANTONE® 18-3224 Radiant Orchid, described as "an enchanting harmony of
fuchsia,
purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and
emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one
that draws you in with its beguiling charm." The other colors for this
Spring are Placid Blue, Violet Tulip, Hemlock,
Sand, Cayenne, Freesia, Celosia Orange and Dazzling Blue.

How to Make a Rainbow Loom Fishtail Bracelet

The rainbow loom is one of the most poplular gifts for the holiday season this year. Boy and girls of all ages, as well as adults are loving this fun and crafty toy. We found a great tutorial that shows how to make the fishtail bracelet, a perfect design for rainbow loom beginners.

You will need the rainbow loom kit which includes a rainbow loom, hook, c clips, and rainbow loom rubber bands.

Pick two colours for your bracelet.

Take your first rubber band, stretch it out into an 8 shape, and put it on the first two pegs of your loom.

Take your next two elastics and put them on top.

Then take your hook and pull the bottom band to the top on both sides. Then take your next rubber band and put it on top. Keep pulling the bottom band up and then putting a new band on top until you have reached the desired length of bracelet.

Take the bracelet off of the loom, take out the last elastic and attach the c clip (see video).

And your bracelet is done!

Enjoy your new bracelet and happy holidays.
Beading parties are growing in popularity as a fun and female-focused activity
to enjoy with your friends and family before your wedding. You can
choose to throw a beading party as
part of your bachelorette party, as an intimate activity for yourself
and your bridesmaids or even enjoy a beading session as part of some
pre-wedding bonding with your mom or mom-in-law-to-be. It's a great way
to relax, unwind, and have plenty of fun before your big day. Here are a
few reasons why it’s such a good idea to host your own beading party,
or have a private beading session, before you wedding.

Homemade Jewelry Makes Perfect Gifts

Your bridesmaids and other attendants are integral in helping your
wedding run smoothly: a good bridesmaid will help you get ready on
the big day, smooth out any problems as the ceremony progresses, and is
worth her weight in gold! It’s likely that you picked your bridesmaids
because they are your beloved family members and closest friends. All of
this means that it’s important to give your bridesmaids the perfect
gift to thank them for being part of your wedding party, and for all of
their hard work in the lead up to your big day. What better than a piece
of homemade jewelry? Homemade jewelry makes the perfect gift because it
shows that you care, especially if you’ve taken the time to make the
piece yourself. You can then tailor each piece to the personal tastes
and styles of your bridesmaids, leaving them with a piece of jewelry
they will love and treasure forever. It's hard to think of a better
gift!

Use Beads to Embellish Your Venue Décor

The great thing about making things yourself is that you can think
outside the box, and the only thing that you are limited by is your
imagination! Who says that you can only use beads to make jewelry? You
could make beaded napkin rings to liven up the table décor at your wedding reception: these could then double up as your wedding
favor to your guests. You could also sprinkle beads over your table centrepieces
so that they coordinate perfectly with these personalize favors. Beaded
boutonnieres for the groomsmen have seen an increase in popularity, as
have beaded handles or brooches on bridesmaids bouquets. Or even create a
beaded flower as the centrepiece for your wedding car ribbon, so that you can ensure it matches your bridesmaid dresses and wedding colour
perfectly. Just don’t forget to ensure that your wedding cars have
adequate fleet insurance! Your wedding cars may look great with their
beaded accessories, but if they break down whilst you’re on the way to
your ceremony then you need to know that the cars will be repaired
quickly, and that there’s a back-up plan to get you to the church on time!

Match your Jewelry to Your Wedding Dress

The most obvious reason to throw a beading party before your wedding is so that you can create beautiful and personalised
bridal jewelry. Whether you want to wear earrings, a necklace, a
bracelet, or even all three, you can create your dream wedding jewelry
set using swarovski crystal, pearls, and
sterling silver plated components. You can ensure the necklace you make
suits the neckline of your dress perfectly. You could consult with your
hairdresser and create earrings that will match your wedding hairstyle
perfectly. There are so many reasons why it’s better to make your bridal
jewelry yourself! Do you need any more reasons to throw that beading
party? Well, the average American Bride spent $144 on her wedding jewelry
in 2012. However bridal beading packages start from just $30 per
person. So as well as having your jewelry personalised to you and your
tastes, you may also find that making your bridal jewelry yourself could
help you save money too! And don’t worry if you don’t think you’re
creative enough because you won’t be attempting this alone: A Beading
Buds designer will work with you, the bride, prior to your beading party
to choose the design and colour of the jewellery you want to create at
the event. Why not give it a try? You’ll be amazed at all the beautiful
things you can create!

Materials and Tools:
Assorted coordinating buttons
Needle nosed pliers
24 gauge wire
Chain
Jump ring
Clasp
2 beads

Spring is coming and we feel like the bright colours of this necklace
put a spring in our step.

Try a few different arrangements to see what you like best. Take a
photo with your camera or phone so you have something to look back at
in case you forget your design.

Cut 3 to 5 feet of wire. Start by bending one end of the wire into a
loop. Wrap the wire below the loop a few times. String one bead onto
the wire. Then add your first button. Bring the wire through the
button a second time to secure the button. Keep adding your buttons
and linking them together. When you reach the other end add the other
bead. Wrap the wire under the bead again. Cut the wire and tuck it
underneath. Open a jump ring and attach the chain to one end.
Attach a clasp to the other end of the chain. Do the same thing to
the other side.

Materials Needed:
3 -12 inch pieces of sterling silver chain
17 headpins
68 4mm crystals
Toggle clasp

Tools:
Cutter pliers
Round nose pliers

The
holidays are coming and it's time to bring out the sparkly jewelry.
This piece can be a bracelet or a choker, it depends on how long you
make it. For a fun twist, you can do a mix of pearls and crystals
instead of just crystals.

Start about an inch into the chain. Take your pin, put on a
crystal, put a piece of chain on (about one inch into your chain), and
then another crystal, then next piece of chain (about one inch in), then
crystal, then last piece of chain (about one inch in) and then
crystal. Then using your round nose pliers you create a loop at the
end. (see video). Then repeat this process about one inch down the
chain. You should be able to do this 17 times until you reach the
desired length. Then, using connectors, attach a piece of the toggle
clasp to each side.
From intimate, living room gatherings to large-scale celebrations, there's more available than Facebook events (although we still recommend them) to take your party planning online.

Twitter - Twitter's a great resource to find vendors such as venue, entertainment, catering, etc. Looking for something specific? Send out a tweet and there's sure to be someone in your network who can help you find it. Need to know if the hotel you're booked at for your wedding offers free breakfast? Use Twitter to ask them directly. Twitter is also a great way to get news of your event out. Use it in conjunction with other social media channels to drum up pre-event excitement by using a specific hashtag such as #janstagette. Because anyone can see your posts, remember to use Twitter to chat about the event only and keep the specifics (like address) for the official invitation.

Google+ Events - Google + recently rolled out their Events in June 2012. Offering an attractive, easy-to-use interface, Google+ Events allows you to choose the look of the event, add any information (YouTube URL, ticket seller URL, etc.) and upload photos before, during and after. Once a guest accepts the invite, it goes directly into their Google calendar so it won't be missed!

Pinterest - This addictive online vision board network can be used for much more than sharing those must-have shoes. Use it to create a board of your daughter's "favourite" things and share it with guests who are looking for gift-giving ideas. Or create a board after the event to showcase the gifts you received from your wedding or beautiful decor.
We have been huge fans of Gown and Glory for a
long time, a Canadian consignment boutique located in the Greater
Toronto Area. We love so many things about them! We love that they
offer fabulous designer gowns at a fraction of the cost, we love that
they are helping to save the environment one dress at a time, and we
love the amazing customer service every bride that walks into the
boutique receives.

Angela, from Gown and Glory, is sharing what to look for when choosing your bridal jewelry.

1)
Pick something that your are comfortable in. If you are an earrings
person, wear big sparkly chandelier earrings and a bracelet, if you like
studs, wear subdued studs with a necklace. If you like to make a
statement, wear a big statement necklace. It's all about your own
style, and accessories are a way for you to make your gown look even
more personalized.

2) The shade of your dress is critical to the type of metal that should be in your wedding accessories.

If you are wearing a bright white gown (also known as diamond white), pearls, crystal and platinum will enhance the gowns shade.

If you are wearing a slightly off white gown
you can wear gold, silver, and rose gold. Rose gold is the new trendy
"it" metal, and goes especially well with a colour scheme that has pink
or black in it. This shade also looks amazing with pearls, but be sure
to maintain the off white colour in your pearl selection as well.

If you are wearing an ivory colour dress (a very light cream
colour), wear gold, bronze or pewter jewelry and cream coloured pearls.

This
is why many brides choose to have their jewelry custom made by a
company such as Beading Buds, because then the necklace will be made in
the colour metal and shade of pearls that best complement and enhance
the detail of the dress.

Custom pearl and crystal bridal necklace

3) Neckline of the dress. Pick jewelry that goes with the style and
neckline of the dress. Make sure the necklace is the correct length to
visually fill the space above the neckline.

If you are wearing a
halter dress, wear a bracelet and earrings instead of a necklace
perhaps, especially if there is a lot of beaded or embroidered detail
already in the dress. You can also wear a hairband, tiara or fascinator
if you feel like you need to add more sparkle.

For a strapless dress you have a couple of options depending on the
simplistic or extravagant look you're going for; you can wear a
statement necklace with small earrings, or statement chandelier earrings
and a bracelet, or a simple necklace, bracelet and earring set. This
can be as simple or extravagant as you choose, based on the style of
your dress...and the vibrancy of your own personality.

If you are wearing a v-neck dress, wear a statement necklace with a
large crystal or pearl pendant, to fill up the space and draw attention
to the neckline.

Custom necklace made at a Bridal Beading Party

4) Pick your dress first and then the
jewelry. It is much easier to match the jewelry to the dress,
especially if you have it custom made.

5) Make sure to consider all the specific details in the dress. This can help set the tone and style of the jewelry.

Summer is here and I am sure all the parents out there are looking for ways
to keep their kids busy (we sure are!) here is a fun and easy tutorial on
how to make your own beads. You can then watch some of our other videos
for ideas on what to do with the beads.

Material needed:

Old magazines
Ruler
Pencil
Glue
Modge podge (varnish)
Styrofoam
Toothpicks
Paint brush

Instructions:

First lay your paper flat. Measure 1 inch intervals on one side and
draw lines 1 inch apart. Then angle your ruler and draw a line cutting
each interval into half and turning each inch interval into two
triangles.

You can experiment with different shapes of paper cutting; this will
result in beads of different shapes.

Once you have a size of paper strip you like, use a small paintbrush
and coat the top side with white glue. Starting with the widest end of
the paper, roll it tightly around a toothpick.

Roll the last bit and press down on it for a few seconds to hold the
bead in place.

Leave each bead on the toothpick and stick each toothpick into the
piece of styrofoam.

Start varnishing. Use a brush and give them at least 2 coats of
varnish. Leave to dry for 2-3 days.

Nancy Ripton, from www.justthefactsbaby.com, is sharing with us a trend she came across, amber teething necklaces.
Nancy says, we were recently at a mommy event and we saw a mom and her little baby wearing beautiful matching necklaces. We commented on them and were told that it was an amber teething necklace. We were instantly intrigued and decided to do some research. Amber, a fossilized sap from prehistoric trees that grew as far back as almost fifty million years ago. It is always warm to the touch and has been used for centuries for its healing properties. It produces negative ions, eases pain and activates the healing process. This mommy wearing the necklace was from Europe where babies have been wearing these necklaces for generations.
If you are as intrigued as we are and would like to see how to make one yourself, check out this link http://www.ehow.com/how_2099756_make-amber-teething-necklace.html

Since we teach lunchtime programs and afterschool programs at many schools in Oakville, Mississauga, Toronto and all over the Greater Toronto Area, we are so happy that the parents of our little beaders will now be able to claim a portion of what they pay for these programs when filing their taxes.

While looking for fun projects to teach at my lunchtime school
program, I came across this super easy and fun video on how to make
beautiful hoop earrings using seed beads and glass beads.

Materials:

2 Earring wires
2 Jump rings
1 spool of bracelet sized memory wire
Size 11 seed beads
4 6 mm beads
2 8 mm beads

Tools:
Needle nosed pliers
Wire cutters

1) Cut the memory wire so that you have one hoop. Repeat so that you have two hoops in total. Using your needle nosed pliers make a loop at one end.
2) String on 48 seed beads. String on one 6 mm bead, a seed bead, a 8 mm bead, a seed bead and another 6 mm bead. Then string on another 48 seed beads.
3) Using your needle nosed pliers make a loop on the remaining end of the hoop.
4) Using your pliers open up the jump ring and put booth ends of the hoop through, as well as the bottom of the earring wire. Close the jump ring. Repeat with the second hoop so that you have two earrings.

This beautiful pair of earrings will be perfect for this spring's boho trend.
Take the piece of chalk and trace around the
roses and then cut out cutting inside the chalk line. Remove the top
rose on each end of your arrangement. Cut the ribbon in half and glue
one end on each side. Then glue all of the flowers onto the piece of
felt, try not to make the design too uniform. Then using the jewelry
glue attach a bead to the middle of each flower.

If you would like to make your own flowers, check out our past post from January 2011.

<g:plusone size="small"></g:plusone>Beading Budshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13641306992185801665noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3060684373936507191.post-22406855746003865892011-10-27T21:39:00.009-04:002011-10-29T10:25:31.693-04:00Festive Holiday Jewelry - Swarovski Drop Earrings

The holiday season is approaching which means it is time to add some sparkle to your jewelry. Started by a fellow mama
who saw the need for unique hair products, Baby Wisp
(www.babywisp.com) carries tons of products, from clips to hats to headbands, to tutus, but my personal favorite product that they carry is their latch clip. This amazing clip will stay in baldie babies hair, it will actually hold in just a wisp of hair.

Baby Wisp ensures that the glue in their clips is are non toxic (& use
sewing wherever possible to reduce use of chemicals) and source many
of their hair clips from dealers with conformity certificates
(conforms to Children's Product Safety Commission rules for safety in
children's products) or get their own certificates from accredited labs. They are committed to lead-free products by periodically and random
sampling our clips for laboratory testing with CPSIA certified labs.
They can stand firmly behind the quality and content of their
products.

Above is a photo of my little girl wearing a tutu, headband and flower
all designed by Baby Wisp.

<g:plusone size="small"></g:plusone>Beading Budshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13641306992185801665noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3060684373936507191.post-59491713371879427182011-08-19T21:53:00.014-04:002011-08-19T23:33:54.394-04:00Memory wire bracelets a perfect after school projectA new school year is fast approaching and the Beading Buds are so excited about our brand new 8 week after school program that we will be running at several schools in Richmond Hill, Oakville and Mississauga and other parts of the Greater Toronto Area.

And to continue with the "back to school" theme, we are sharing this article about the developmental benefits of beading with children.

http://www.ourkids.net/blog/the-value-of-beading-for-children-12900/

One of the projects we will be teaching at the after school program is a memory wire bracelet which can also be worn as a necklace, below is a tutorial showing how to make this memory wire bracelet.

Materials:
Memory Wire
Beads

Tools:
Wire cutters
Needle nosed pliers

Take your memory wire and measure so that it loops around your wrist two times and then cut using your wire cutters. Taking your needle nosed pliers, make a loop at one end of the wire. Using your bead board, make your pattern, it is usually best to use 4 beads and keep repeating them, or just make it totally random. String your beads until you have about about 1/2 an inch of wire left and then make another loop using your needle nosed pliers.

Enjoy the rest of your summer, and we look forward to bringing you lots of fun beading projects for the fall and winter season.

Make a wire wrapped loop in your wire by making a
90 degree bend in your wire about 2 inches from one end of the wire,
then taking the 2 inch piece in your hand, wrap it around the base of
the bend to make a loop. Then using the chain nosed pliers wrap the
wire around several times (see video). Trip off the left over wire
using your side cutters. Now string your beads onto the wire
following the design that you laid out. Once you are finished
stringing the beads, make another 90 degree bend on the remaining end of the bracelet. Slip the clasp onto the wire and then wrap the wire around the base several times to make another loop.

<g:plusone size="small"></g:plusone>

Beading Budshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13641306992185801665noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3060684373936507191.post-1817125103834463292011-06-15T20:59:00.005-04:002011-06-15T21:50:31.573-04:00Beaded Wire Looped Necklace

Materials:
24 gage wire
6 large beads
14 small beads
1 lobster clasp
1 jump ring
2 crimp beads

Tools:
Flat nosed pliers

Take one of your large beads and thread onto your wire, move bead
about 4 inches in from one end of the wire, that will be your starting
point. Take one end of your wire (the working wire) and pull back
through the bead (see video). Pull the wire tight to hold the bead in
place. Now thread one of the small beads, move it along the wire
until it is the desired distance from your large bead (approximately
one inch) and do what you did with the large bead, feed the working
wire back through and pull tight to hold the bead in place. Continue
doing this for the remainder of your necklace, spacing all the beads
about 1 inch apart, doing the pattern of two small beads, one large
bead, two small beads, etc. Attach the clasp to one end of the wire
using the crimp bead. Attach the jump ring to the other end of the
wire using the remaining crimp bead.

Beading Budshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13641306992185801665noreply@blogger.com5
